Michel Foucault

(1926 - 1984)

Philosopher and cultural historian Michel Foucault first gained international recognition for The Order of Things in 1966. Nine years later he published Discipline and Punish, his study of crime and incarceration. He completed three volumes of his History of Sexuality before he died at the age of fifty-seven in 1984.
