Babur
(1483 - 1530)
Considered the founder of the Mughal dynasty, Babur was descended from both the Mongol conqueror Genghis Khan and the Turkic conqueror Tamerlane. At the age of ten in 1493, shortly after having been named governor of Andijon, he began keeping a journal chronicling his life and exploits, which would become the renowned autobiography the Baburnama. A brilliant military commander, poet, and statesman, he died at the age of forty-seven in 1530.
