Steve Martin
From a letter. While attending UCLA in 1967, Martin was asked to write for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour; two years later he won an Emmy for his efforts. In 1976 he hosted Saturday Night Live—the first of twenty-five times—which helped him quickly become one of America’s top comedians. Martin starred in the films The Jerk and L.A. Story and published Born Standing Up: A Comic’s Life in 2007.
