Steve Martin
While attending UCLA in 1967, Steve Martin was asked to write for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour; two years later he won an Emmy Award for his work on the show. He later wrote and starred in The Jerk and L.A. Story. Elsewhere in his 2007 memoir, Martin observed, “Every entertainer has a night when everything is clicking. These nights are accidental and statistical: like lucky cards in poker, you can count on them occurring over time. What was hard was to be good, consistently good, night after night, no matter what the abominable circumstances.”
