Dorothy Baker

(1907 - 1968)

The Missoula-born Dorothy Baker’s debut novel, Young Man with a Horn, is thought to be the first jazz novel ever published. She was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1942. After publishing three more novels, including 1962’s Cassandra at the Wedding, Baker died in 1968.
