Charles Ponzi

(1882 - 1949)

After being deported to Italy following a prison term in the U.S., Charles Ponzi (1882–1949) was appointed business manager in 1939 for an airline in Brazil whose flights were used by Axis spies. The Brazilian government shut it down in 1941. One of Ponzi’s last jobs was running a hot-dog stand in Rio de Janeiro.
