Giacomo Leopardi

Giacomo Leopardi spent much of his childhood in his father’s immense library—said to be the second-largest private library in Europe—in a hill town in the papal states. By the time he was in his midteens, he had learned Hebrew, Latin, ancient Greek, French, Sanskrit, and Spanish; English and German soon followed.
