Darcy Frey

Darcy Frey’s book, The Last Shot, about four promising high-school basketball players, began as a Harper’s Magazine essay of the same name, for which he won a National Magazine Award in 1994. Stephon Marbury entered the NBA in 1996 as a first-round draft pick and is now a two-time All-Star. Darryle Flicking (called Russell Thomas in the book) became homeless and was hit and killed by a train in 1999.
