Elizabeth Warren

Born in Oklahoma, Elizabeth Warren spent much of her academic career teaching students about bankruptcy law. She pushed the government to create an agency that would regulate payday lenders, debt collectors, and other parts of the financial industry; her idea became the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in 2010. “There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own—nobody,” she told a crowd when running for the Massachusetts Senate seat she currently holds in 2011.
