John Mainwaring

(1724 - 1807)

The author of Memoirs of the Life of the Late George Frederic Handel, John Mainwaring was appointed rector of Church Stretton, Shropshire, in 1749 and was from 1748 to 1788 a fellow of St. John’s College, Cambridge. He resigned his fellowship in 1788 and married Anne Wilding.
