Giorgio Agamben

A professor of philosophy at the University of Venice, Giorgio Agamben refused in 2004 to submit to the “biopolitical tattooing” requested by the Immigration Department for entry to the United States. “There has been an attempt in the last few years,” he wrote, “to convince us to accept as the humane and normal dimensions of our existence practices of control that had always been properly considered inhumane and exceptional.”
