Born in New York City’s borough of Queens, Donald Trump was given control of his father’s real estate development company in 1968. One of his first successful projects was the rehabilitation of Manhattan’s decrepit Commodore Hotel. Published in 2008—when Forbes magazine estimated his net worth at $3 billion—Never Give Up, a motivational book, was Trump’s seventeenth. “I believe the so-called impossible is actually very often possible,” writes Trump, “if you’re willing to work very hard.” In 2016 he was elected president of the United States, a role he assumed on January 20, 2017.
