Yuan Zhen

Born in Luoyang during the middle Tang Dynasty, the Chinese writer and politician Yuan Zhen was part of the literary circle of poet Bai Juyi; the group sought to revive old poetic forms in works that protested contemporary social ills. He is best known for the semiautobiographical Story of Yingying.
