Ellen Bryant Voigt

A native of Danville, Virginia, Ellen Bryant Voigt graduated from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop in 1966 and has since taught at Goddard College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, among other schools. Now based in Vermont, she served as the state’s poet laureate from 1999 to 2002. “It’s clear I prefer to be out in the natural world,” she once said in an interview. “I don’t do very well in cities.”
