Paul Virilio

The French philosopher Paul Virilio was drafted into the army and spent six months fighting in the Algerian war of independence, attaining the rank of sergeant. Upon completion of his military service, he studied phenomenology at the Sorbonne with Maurice Merleau-Ponty.
