Azadeh Moaveni

Azadeh Moaveni grew up in San Jose, California, and worked as a reporter for Time and the Los Angeles Times. Her book Lipstick Jihad grew out of her experiences working in Tehran for two years. “You suddenly had Islamic conservative values governing how society was run, which pushed a lot of things behind closed doors and under veils and chadors,” she said in 2005 about the 1979 Iranian Revolution. “Private behavior became much more weighted.”
