Charles Fort
(1874 - 1932)
Charles Fort, who spent his life studying unexplained phenomena, moved from New York City to London in 1920 to conduct research at the British Museum, where he would arrange his notes on torn scraps of paper. Fort’s The Book of the Damned records examples of UFOs, giants, fairies, and rocks falling from the sky. His followers and admirers described themselves as Forteans and included Sherwood Anderson, Clarence Darrow, Theodore Dreiser, and Alexander Woollcott.
