Angela Y. Davis

Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Angela Y. Davis attended Brandeis, and then went abroad in France and Germany. When she returned to the U.S., she got a job as a philosophy professor at UCLA and quickly became famous for her advocacy and membership in Communist Party USA. She later was arrested and put on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted List for a crime that an all-white jury declared her “not guilty” of committing. She is once again employed by the University of California system, after Ronald Reagan said she would never work there again.
