Ulfat al-Idilbi

(1912 - 2007)

Ulfat al-Idilbi began publishing stories in magazines while still a teenager in Damascus. In 1948 she won a short-story prize from the BBC Arabic service; the first volume of her stories appeared in 1954. Her best-known novel, Sabriya, became a wildly popular television series in Syria.
