Finley Peter Dunne

(1867 - 1936)

Finley Peter Dunne was a Chicago-based writer famous in the late nineteenth century for his Mr. Dooley sketches. The character of Dooley was an Irish immigrant whose opinions on social and political goings-on were popular with President Theodore Roosevelt, who was himself often the subject of jokes.
