Alain de Lille

(c. 1128 - 1202)

Theologian and poet Alain de Lille lived in Paris and Montpellier before joining the Cistercians in Cîteaux. His many works include The Complaint of Nature and Anticlaudianus, and his extensive scholarship earned him the moniker Doctor Universalis.
