Siegfried Sassoon

(1886 - 1967)

An English poet and novelist, Siegfried Sassoon enlisted in World War I and was twice wounded seriously while serving as an officer in France. After the war, he became known for his anti-war poetry and affirmation of pacifism, protests that at first were attributed to shell shock. He later won high acclaim for his fictionalized autobiographies, known collectively as the Sherston trilogy.
