Li Daoyuan

Having traveled extensively as a child, Li Daoyuan felt that existing accounts of Chinese geography were rudimentary and hoped “to identify places through their waterways and, through these places, to preserve antiquity.” Li expanded a classic work from the first century BC to create his own Commentary on the Water Classic.
