Liu Xijun

(c. 130 BC - c. 90 BC)

Liu Xijun was orphaned as an infant when her father was implicated in a rebellion and committed suicide, and her mother was accused of witchcraft and publicly executed. Around 105 bc Emperor Wu arranged her marriage to the king of Wusun to solidify an alliance with the nomadic tribe, and she set off on a three-thousand-mile journey with a retinue of several hundred officials, slaves, and eunuchs. Liu Xijun failed to bear sons to two successive kings.
