Marguerite Gardiner, Countess of Blessington

(1789 - 1849)

Of rare beauty and wit, the Irish writer Marguerite Gardiner, Countess of Blessington, sat for a Thomas Lawrence portrait at age eighteen, and later wrote numerous essays and sketches on London life in addition to several novels. Best remembered for her Conversations of Lord Byron, Gardiner also hosted a brilliant London salon for writers and artists.
