Jobs at Lapham's Quarterly
INTERN

Lapham’s Quarterly, a new historical journal edited by Lewis H. Lapham, is offering internships in its New York office. Interns will be responsible for suggesting, finding, and editing historical texts for use in the journal; assisting editors with daily operation of the journal; and contributing ideas for auxiliary LQ projects such as the website and Bloomberg radio program.  Prior experience with reprints/permissions acquisitions is preferable, but not required.

Largely composed of compelling texts culled from the historical record, yet complemented by new writing contributed by contemporary essayists and historians, the journal will be published four times a year, with each issue opening the doors of history behind the events in the news. Lapham's Quarterly sets the story of the past in the frame of the present and reminds us that, on the way to their deaths, men create their own immortality, salvaging from the ruin of families and the wreck of empires what they have found useful or beautiful or true.

Four times a year, the editors find a topic prominently in the headlines - foreign war, scientific discovery, financial panic, technological change, belief in miracles - and within the focus of that topic, they assemble a set of fifty or sixty texts - expository narrative and literary commentary, as well as letters, diaries, speeches, bills of lading, writs of execution - that pass the test of time.

Interested candidates should submit a resume, cover letter, brief writing sample, and a historical text, suitably edited and introduced, that could be included in the journal, to:
