Wole Soyinka

Born to a Yoruba family, poet and playwright Wole Soyinka had his work performed at the Royal Court Theatre and the Theatre Royal in the 1960s. He spent twenty-two months imprisoned during the Nigerian Civil War, and in 1986 he became the first African writer to receive Nobel Prize in Literature.
