Julius Rosenwald

(1862 - 1932)

In 1895 Julius Rosenwald bought a one-quarter stake in the nascent Sears, Roebuck & Co., which grew to a fortune of more than $200 million. After the 1908 race riots in his hometown of Springfield, Illinois, he turned his philanthropic attention to the welfare of African Americans.
