Chuck Palahniuk’s first novel, Fight Club, became a cult classic and then a Hollywood film in 1999. About his own bruises from fighting and the response of his coworkers, he said he realized, “You could really do anything you wanted in your personal life, as long as you looked so bad that people would not want to know the details.”
