Millard Fillmore

(1800 - 1874)

Millard Fillmore was born in a log cabin and received little formal education. He ascended from the vice presidency to become thirteenth president upon the death of Zachary Taylor in 1850. During his one term he supported the Compromise of 1850 and worked to enforce the Fugitive Slave Act.
