Alfred Döblin

Alfred Döblin was one of Germany’s best-known authors when he was forced to flee the Nazi regime in 1933. The author of Berlin Alexanderplatz spent his exile in Hollywood and returned to Germany after the war. Largely forgotten, he struggled to find a publisher, and he took work with the French military approving German manuscripts for publication.
